The Municipality of South Huron and Libro Credit Union Still Have A Few Spaces For Their Inaugural South Huron Youth Makers Market
by Bob Montgomery
The Municipality of South Huron and Libro Credit Union in Exeter are partnering on a Youth Makers Market that will be held on November 16th in Exeter.
South Huron Community Relations Manager Stacey Jeffery says the market is designed to showcase the creativity and innovation of young entrepreneurs and makers in their community between the ages of 6 and 14. They are supporting the next generation of entrepreneurship through an introduction to business resources and coaching. “These are the future business owners in South Huron so we're really trying to support youth in that step by step business development and encourage them to understand this could be a long term career for them.”
Jeffrey says the youth come to them with their idea for a new business and a range of makers have already signed up. Their ideas range from hand made goods to eco-friendly items, or things like fire starters and craft kits. The goal is to encourage them in something their interested in and turn that into a business. The market is very much their first step in showcasing their business. “In the application process we do ask them what they want to get out of the market and some of them have already said they want to understand what customers want; is their price-point on parr with what someone would pay. We've provided an opportunity after the market for those that are signed up as a vendor to work with a local printer who will offer them startup items like business cards and table signs.” She adds, they have a lot of options to help the young people who want to continue with their business.
The Youth Makers Market runs from ten until noon on November 16th at the South Huron Recreation Centre - Community Hall (94 Victoria Street East in Exeter). The deadline for applications is November 8th. More information about the event can be found here.
