Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health Is Hosting A Virtual Lecture Series On Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy And Speech-Language Pathology In Rural Regions
by Bob Montgomery
The Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is hosting a virtual webinar on November 5th to discuss Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology.
It's recognized that these are healthcare professions that help people regain day-to-day functions and improve capabilities. In rural areas, access to these professionals and best practices for treatment are shaped by factors such as geography, culture and types of industry, like farming or mining. To understand more about the work being done in these areas, Gateway has invited three guest speakers to take part in the webinar.
Dagny Haas is a registered physiotherapist with her Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy designation and Master of Clinical Science degree from University of Western Ontario. She is a co-owner of a private physiotherapy clinic in Goderich where she treats a variety of injuries. Kathleen Gahagan is an occupational therapist and life care planner based in London. She has worked with clients ranging from young school age children to seniors, providing community-based care. Lauren Somers is from Bayfield and has worked since 2019 as a registered Speech-Language Pathology alongside the First Nations population in remote areas of Northwestern Ontario. Her practice focuses on providing culturally sensitive and trauma-informed services for children and adults.
The webinar is virtual and it's free. It runs from noon until one via Zoom and anyone is invited to join this seminar and future presentations by registering on the Gateway website https://www.gatewayruralhealth.ca/lectureseries
