Remembrance Day in Goderich Will Feature a Fly-By this Year

by Bob Montgomery

Goderich Legion Branch 109 President Randy Carroll says a fly-by at this year's Remembrance Day Ceremony won't be the first, but there hasn't been one for several years.

He says this one came about when Bart Postma asked him if he'd be interested in having a fly-by for Saturday's Remembrance Day Ceremony and he said he thought it was a great idea. He says what Postma is proposing is what's called a Four Man Missing Formation. He says it's a salute by aircraft at a funeral or a memorial event and is in memory, typically, of a fallen pilot or a well known service man or a veteran. Carroll says they plan to take off from the Goderich Airport and fly over the Remembrance Service around the time of the minute of silence, so just after eleven o'clock.

Carroll says Postma has also offered to take some of the veterans up with him. He says he can take four to six veterans with him and so far he has a couple of veterans and they'll hope to have the rest by Friday. But he says if they don't get enough veterans who can go because of age or physical conditions, they'll invite some cadets to go.
