Newcomers Invited To Visit Huron County Historic Gaol

by Bob Montgomery

Huron County's Immigration Partnership is hosting a Newcomer Day at the Historic Gaol this Sunday.

Immigration Partnership Manager Mark Nonkes says it'll be a chance for newcomers to explore Huron County's past and will be followed by a presentation by Victim's Services Huron Perth and the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance about human trafficking and the risks newcomers might face, the warning signs and then what to do if they witness or feel like they may be caught in it.

The event is sponsored by Immigration Refugee Citizenship Canada along with the Huron County Museum who are making the event free for all newcomers to explore the Gaol.

The event runs from two until five this Sunday afternoon. Coffee and tea will be provided and anyone is welcome to bring snacks to share. Nokes says aside from the visit through the Gaol there will be an opportunity for people to meet one another and socialize as well.
