Newcomer Holiday Celebration at Knox Presbyterian Church in Goderich

by Bob Montgomery

Huron County's Immigration Partnership and Knox Presbyterian Church in Goderich are hosting a Newcomer Holiday Celebration on Saturday, December 16th.

Immigration Partnership Manager Mark Nonkes says the event is an opportunity for people to create social bonds and to get to know who else is new in the community, particularly if they've moved here from another country. Nonkes says people who are new to Huron County, and maybe even Canada, can relate with each other because they're all sharing the same experiences and challenges of moving to a new country and they can take some comfort in knowing they're not alone.

Nonkes says they might even meet people who came from the same country they did but live in different communities in Huron County so events like the Newcomer Holiday Celebration gives them a central meeting place. The Newcomer Holiday Celebration is a potluck event and people are invited to bring a dish from their home country or one they've discovered here. The Newcomer Holiday Celebration is from 1:00pm until 6:00pm on this Saturday, December 16th at the Knox Presbyterian Church located at 9 Victoria St N in Goderich.
