Howick Agricultural Society Representative Looking Forward To Ambassador Of The Fairs Competition
by Bob Montgomery
Ashlyn Hill is representing the Howick Agricultural Society at this year's Ambassador of the Fairs Competition at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.
Ashlyn is nineteen years old and this fall will be going into her first year of college at Lambton to take a two year course in business that she hopes will lead to a program in agriculture business.
Launched in 1972, Ambassador of the Fairs was created as a way to educate and celebrate Canada’s rich agriculture history and the CNE’s roots as an agricultural fair.
Since its conception, the program has seen more than 3000 participants from over 100 communities across the province of Ontario highlight their knowledge, poise, and passion for agriculture.
Ashlyn says from what she's seen, the candidates will have a very busy three days going through several different seminars and interviews and it's something she's really looking forward to. She says they had another conventions in February that helped to prepare for them for the Ambassador competition and it was a lot of fun and not intimidating at all so she's expecting to have a lot of fun at the CNE.
Ashlyn says she wishes all the contestants the best of luck, but also believes that all of the girls and boys in the competition will come out of the experience with more new life skills. The other two candidates from Huron County are Maria Pot representing the Central Huron Agricultural Society and Emma Robinson representing the Seaforth Agricultural Society.
