Get Help Finding A Job

by Bob Montgomery

Huron County's Local Immigration Partnership is inviting newcomers and anyone else looking for a job to join them next Thursday at the Wingham Library.

Immigration Partnership Manager, Mark Nonkes, says they conducted a survey last year asking newcomers to the area what they felt were the biggest challenges they faced when they moved here. The biggest challenges for them were the cost of living and money problems. They said the things that would strengthen the community the most were better employment services or if they could find a job that matched their professional qualifications.

What that told them was there was a lack of information about the employment services that are available in the community. That provided a great opportunity to get people reacquainted with what employment services are available and how they can get help from experts who specialize in writing resumes and cover letters and help people practice doing interviews. They know where to look for jobs that aren't always on job boards or on Google

Nonkes says the event next Thursday in Wingham is to introduce newcomers to Canada and anyone else who's looking for work, to the services and the specialists that are free for anybody looking for a job. The event next week is at seven o'clock next Thursday evening at the Wingham Library on Edwards Street and the Centre for Employment and Learning and Boreal College are two different service providers that will be available.
