Gateway Centre Of Excellence In Rural Health Virtual Lecture Series "Retention – Why It Is The Key to Recruitment”
by Bob Montgomery
The Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health will focus on Retention and Recruitment in it's next webinar series.
Recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals in rural regions is a growing problem for rural municipalities in Huron, Perth, Grey and Bruce counties. That has been exacerbated by the COVID 19 pandemic and an aging population. In 2023, the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health conducted a needs assessment in Huron County and found a shortfall of 223 healthcare workers.
In recognition of this need, Gateway's free webinar on December 3rd will feature Dr. Sarah Newbery. She will be talking about “Retention - Why It Is The Key to Recruitment.” The focus will be on the retention of clinicians, both as a backbone to encourage recruitment and for education and clinical teaching which also opens the door to recruitment.
Dr. Newbery is the inaugural Associate Dean of Physician Workforce Strategy at Northern Ontario School of Medicine University. In this role, she works alongside faculty, communities and other partner organizations to support strategic initiatives to enhance the physician workforce in northern Ontario.
