Avon Maitland Superintendent says Board has Policy in Place for Appropriate Use of Cell Phones in Class

by Bob Montgomery

A Superintendent with the Avon Maitland District School Board says the Board definitely recognizes there can be harmful affects associated with the inappropriate use of technology.

But, Paul Langis adds there are appropriate uses of technology and that's what the Board really focuses on. Langis says the Avon Maitland Board doesn't have an outright ban on cell phones in the classroom. They allow them for educational purposes but they shouldn't be used in classrooms for recreational purposes. They really only allow them when teachers give permission and they can control it. He adds the Board believes that teaching the students to distinguish between an appropriate and inappropriate use is an important part of teaching students how to use technology.

So, Langis says while they don't have an outright ban on cell phones in the classrooms there are guidelines that have to be followed.
