A Huron County Christmas Carol at the Blyth Festival
by Bob Montgomery
The Blyth Festival's A Huron County Christmas Carol continues until this Friday.
The play has received great reviews. Blyth Festival Director of Audience Development says the setting may be Huron County but the plot is pure Dickens. In the Huron County Christmas Carol, Scrooge is actually the owner of all of the feed mills in a large part of Ontario and he's taking advantage of that to make life miserable for all of the farmers.
Lamb says the mentor Scrooge had in his younger days, who was all about family and community, has been adapted by Director Gil Garratt into Doc Cruikshank from CKNX because that's how the community looked at Doc. Lamb says the play is really about the local Huron County community and how important it is for communities to come together and how important that is for family life.
The play has all brand new music by John Powers from Goderich. Lamb says he's used a lot of the original script from the novel by Dickens in the music and all of the actors on stage play an instrument of some sort. The last performance of The Huron County Christmas Carol is this Friday night.
