Upgrades Proposed for the G2G Trail in Goderich

by Bob Montgomery

Retired Planning Professional and University of Guelph Professor Wayne Caldwell presented Goderich council with some changes they'd like to make to the G2G Trail in Goderich at this week's Goderich council meeting.

Caldwell says the area they focused on was the area between the bridge over highway 21 and the Menesetung Bridge. He says they had twenty four recommendations all together including things like parking in some areas, improvements in terms of trail design, a memorial structure of some kind, drainage, getting rid of invasive species and improvements to the trail.

Caldwell says some of the improvements are more easily completed than others but they're not expecting to get everything done right away. He says some of the projects will be more expensive than others, like signs that might be put up along the trail, but the more expensive projects can be spread out over a number of years. Caldwell adds, there will be some fundraising involved and there's always the possibility of Federal or Provincial funding so it's important that they plan ahead so they're ready if government funding does become available

Caldwell also says the cooperation between the Menesetung Bridge Association and the G2G Trail Association is very encouraging.
