Town of Goderich Losing Money on Electric Vehicle Chargers

by Bob Montgomery

Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says the town is rethinking it's fees for the use of the three chargers for electric vehicles they have in the town.

Bazinets says the year before last year those three chargers were losing money so they increased the price last year to make up what they were losing. And they lost more money. So Bazinet says this year they're going to drop the price again and charge the same as it costs to use other chargers in the town. Bazinet says there are several different chargers available around the town now and they want to take a look at all of their options before they make a final decision. He says the town's chargers are the slower ones, so it might be better to go with the faster chargers but they're also more expensive so they want more information before they make a decision.

Bazinet says for this year anyway they'll bring the price for using the chargers back down and see if that encourages more people to use them. He says they also want to look into the demand for electric vehicles and how much that's increasing. He says if the demand is there, it might make sense to go with the faster charges, but he says they'll have a better idea on that by the end of the year.
