The President of the Huron County Federation of Agriculture says Increasing Costs and Decreasing Incomes are a Couple of Concerns for Farmers
by Bob Montgomery
Following last week's Huron County Federation of Agriculture MP / MPP and Local Politician Forum, Federation President Murray Workman outlined some of the concerns that farmers have right now.
Workman says their costs on just about everything seem to be going up, due in part to inflation, while some of their incomes are coming down. He adds, he's hoping that crop prices will start to recover. “I guess the other thing that's effected us too, is that the development of farm land is always sort of a background thing, when you're driving through the country and there's a lot of construction going on and we'd like to see some of it preserved.”
Workman says in many ways the challenge for farmers is that so many different things are working against them right now. “That farm land is at it's all time un-affordability level and I think housing has gone to that point too, so it's definitely concerning.”
Workman adds, in spite of what appears to be a fairly bleak picture right now, he is still optimistic about the future for young people.
