Lake Huron Coastal Centre Goderich Beach Clean-Up

by Bob Montgomery

The Lake Huron Coastal Centre is looking for volunteers for their first beach clean-up of the year.

Interim Executive Director Alyssa Bourassa says the Coastal Centre is celebrating Earth Day a little early this year with the first Beach Clean-up of the year at St. Christopher's Beach in Goderich on Saturday, April 20th from ten in the morning until one in the afternoon. “Last year we had 180 volunteers remove 600 pounds of litter from the Goderich shoreline so we hope to make this year another success.”

Bourassa says those numbers are a pretty good indication of how seriously people are now taking the health of the lake and the shoreline. She says they've held the event for a few years now and people understand it's one thing they can do on Earth Day to do their part and it's gaining more traction as the years go on. The event is a free family fun day and volunteers are invited to stay afterwards to enjoy a free beach barbecue courtesy of Zehrs Goderich.

To get more information, or to register go to lakehuron.ca/beachcleanup. Bourassa adds, the Goderich Beach Clean-up is their biggest fund-raiser and if people would like to donate they can go to lakehuron.ca/donate. She also says they couldn't run the event without the support of their sponsors and they're listed on their website.
