The Lancaster Bomber Arrived In Goderich This Morning

by Bob Montgomery

There was a steady stream of aircrafts flying into the Goderich Airport starting early Friday morning as pilots wanted to be on the ground when the Lancaster arrived. Traffic was backed up on highway 21 all the way to the intersection of highway 21 and highway 8. The Lancaster arrived a little early, landing at the airport around 9:45am.

Organizers are expecting about 5000 people over today and tomorrow. They have guests coming from as far away as British Columbia, many of them veterans and legion members. The formal welcoming ceremony and dignitary speeches were held at 10:30am, and then Lancaster tours were open to the public from 11:30 until 4:00pm and after that the Lancaster will be on display until dusk. From 8:00pm until midnight there will be music at the Legion Lounge with The Daves I Know.

From 10:00 until 11:00 on Saturday morning there will be outside walks around the Lancaster. Then, from 11:00am until 12:30pm there will be a local Fly By and Dignitary Flight. From 12:30pm until 1:30pm there will be more opportunities for outside walks around the Lancaster and then it will take off around 2:00pm.
