The Director Of The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board Has Announced His Retirement
by Bob Montgomery
Chris Roehrig announced last week that he will be retiring as the Director of Education for the Huron-Perth Board on February 24 of next year.
He was appointed Director of Education in 2019. He had previously held the same position with the Brand Haldimand Norfolk Board since 2012. Roehrig says he leaves with a tremendous sense of pride, gratitude and humility. “It has been the honour of a lifetime to stand on the shoulders of the giants before me and to walk beside our staff in service to our community.”
Roehrig is proud to have had a hand in several accomplishments achieved during his time as Director of Education, including moving the district into the top twenty percent in the province in student achievement, gains made through an ambitious strategic plan, progress in board governance, safely navigating the global pandemic, gains in the area of information and computer technology and renewed commitments to Catholic faith information.”
Roehrig says he has no specific plans for life after retirement. He says at fifty-five he's in very good health and he'd like to continue some of the activities that are responsible for that, like playing hockey, skiing, and riding his bike. He's also looking forward to catching up on some reading and generally enjoying himself both physically and spiritually. He also believes that by retiring while he's still healthy will allow him to be active longer.
Roehrig says he's thoroughly enjoyed working with the people he's been working with for the past five and a half years and he doesn't take any of that for granted. But now he's looking forward to the next stage.
