The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is Looking for Nominations for it's Conservationist of the Year

 by Bob Montgomery

The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority is now accepting nominations for it Conservationist of the Year Award.

Ausable Bayfield Communications Specialist Tim Cumming says the ABCA has presented a Conservationist of the Year Award each year since 1984. Past award winners have included rural landowners and residents, agricultural producers and farms, service clubs, community organizations, companies, nature groups, and municipalities. Individuals, organizations or companies who either reside in, or have completed conservation work in the ABCA area are eligible to win the Conservationist of the Year award. The nominee must have undertaken conservation efforts over a number of years showing long-term benefits for nature and society. Examples of conservation work include: improving local water quality, conservation farming, reforestation, conservation education, providing wildlife and fish habitat and promoting awareness and action for soil, water, and habitat for all living things.

Cumming says they wish they could recognize more than one winner because they do realize there are several people in the watershed doing great work, but in a way that's what makes the award so special. Cumming says nominations can be accepted up to February 9th and nomination forms can be found at the ABCA website.

The award will be presented at the Partner Appreciation evening on March 21st at the Iron Wood Golf Course.
