Public Invited to the Launch of the Student Sculpture Garden at Millennium Park in Clinton

by Bob Montgomery

Members of the public are invited to the launch of the Student Sculpture Garden at Millennium Park in Clinton on April 4th.

Central Huron Community Improvement Coordinator Angela Smith says the Student Sculpture Garden is a partnership between the Avon Maitland and Huron Perth Catholic District School Boards as well as the Technical Training Group, the Municipality of Central Huron and Huron County and the Huron Manufacturing Association. Smith says they got the project started by going to the schools and asking the students to create metal sculptures for a public art display. There were no restrictions on creativity, they were given a size guideline and they could create anything they wanted. “They're all metal, they're various sizes and shapes, some are sitting on the ground and some are on stands, everything is different and they all showcase some pretty impressive talent that our youth demonstrate when they get in the welding booth.”

Smith says the project is a great introduction to the trade for the students, but it goes beyond putting two pieces of metal together and they're actually creating a public art piece that will live on in their community.

The unveiling of the art work will take place at two o'clock on April 4th at the Millennium Park on Ontario Street, just behind the town hall.
