President Of Bayfield Food Bank Says Municipality Is Working With Them To Find A New Home
by Bob Montgomery
The President of the Bayfield Food Bank says she's very happy that the municipality of Bluewater is working with them as they search for a new home.
The Food Bank is currently located in a building on Municipal Road in Bayfield but that building has been sold to make way for a new doctors clinic in the village. Claire Trepanier says she met on Thursday afternoon with the Mayor, the CAO and councillor Bill Whetstone to discuss possibilities. She was very pleased to learn that the CAO has already been busy looking at options for a new food bank.
Trepanier says the municipality hasn't committed to any funding at this point. So once they get the reconnaissance work done, council will have to decide how much funding they can provide for a new home for the food bank. She says a lot of food banks are affiliated with churches in their area but the churches in Bayfield are not able to accommodate them for a number of reasons, including accessibility, so they're going to have to build a new home and that's going to cost money.
