Parents In The Blyth Area Are One Big Step Closer To Getting A New Day Care Centre

by Bob Montgomery

Parents in the Blyth Area got some very good news at last night's North Huron council meeting.

Director of Recreation and Children's Services Kelly Steiss says at Tuesday's council meeting she was given direction from council to proceed with the development of a request for proposals to support the design and architectural drawings for the building of a Day Care Centre in Blyth. She says the preferred location is at the back of the parking lot that belongs to the Blyth and Arena Community Centre.

Steiss says their grant funding for the project requires them to spend the money and have the project completed within two years. That gives them until the end of December 2026, so they're hoping to get construction underway as soon as possible. She adds, the funding application for this project is very specific, and allows them to build a facility to support 26 children. The county looks after the waiting list and parents can apply if they live in Blyth, or work in Blyth but live somewhere else. She says there are still waiting lists to access child care but they hope this new facility will help reduce some of that pressure. She says they've already had people calling about getting on the list but they're not at that stage yet.

Steiss does admit they're very excited about the excitement the project has already generated and acknowledges it has been a long time coming.
