North Huron Updates its Emergency Management
by Bob Montgomery
North Huron Reeve Paul Heffer says the municipality has added a few things to its current Emergency Management Program.
Heffer says they reviwe the program every year with a coordinator from the county and he says two things the wanted to add to their program this year. Heffer says the first was including a public works facilitator in the event of a serious flood. Heffer says the other change to their plan was to get the Director of Finance / Treasurer involved in the event there was the need to find money to pay for any help that had to be brought in.
Heffer says they'll be meeting with the county coordinator around the end of this month to go over their plan and he says it's something that most municipalities in Huron County take a lot more seriously since the tornado tore through the town of Goderich in 2011. Heffer also points to the flooding that occurred when the dam broke near Gorrie and the problems that created. He says even a minor situation encourages municipal staff to take the threat more seriously.
