More Homes In Huron County To Get High Speed Internet

by Bob Montgomery

Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn says even with provincial funding provided to the SWIFT program and two other similar programs, some residences are still without high speed internet.

Ginn says the problem was the cost, it was too expensive to connect some of the more remote homes. Ginn says the province, through the Minister of Infrastructure, has asked the SWIFT program to find those homes in Huron County and get them hooked up. Ginn says he believes there are about 34 homes in Huron County that would qualify.

The province is providing up to $35,000 to connect each of those homes and any homes above that won't be connected, but he says there won't be many beyond that. It’s very encouraging to see some of the more isolated homes being serviced.
