Military Emergency Management Training Exercise Coming to Huron and Bruce Counties

by Bob Montgomery

A Canadian military exercise will be conducted throughout Huron and Bruce counties in early May.

All Huron and Bruce County municipalities, including North Huron, have been invited to participate in this exercise. North Huron is one several municipalities that has expressed an interest in participating and Reeve Paul Heffer says that participation will count as their annual emergency management training requirement.

Staff have been told the exercise will involve the mobilization of about 400 military personnel to North Huron. The exercise will be headquartered in Blyth and will involve the use of the Blyth Community Centre dry pad, the Blyth Campground and ball diamonds, the Wescast Community Complex dry pad and dressing room showers. The exercise will also include Blyth, Goderich, Hensall and Clinton. It's scheduled to last from May 3rd to May 5th. Military personnel and equipment will start arriving in the area in late April to prepare for the exercise. More information and details regarding the exercise will be shared with council and the public closer to the time of the exercise. Residents should not be alarmed by the presence of military personnel in the area. This exercise is part of routine training operations and is not the result of any emergency or threat to public safety.
