MacKay Centre for Seniors Hosting a Strategic Planning Community Open House Session on Wednesday

by Bob Montgomery

The MacKay Centre for Seniors is currently in the process of developing a strategic plan.

WE-R-Strategic Consultant Maureen Cole says they're looking for public input and they've invited community partners like the councils from ACW, Goderich, Central Huron and Bluewater because there are members from all of those municipalities who go to the MacKay Centre. “So we've done the survey of the membership and we've done the community survey, but now we're doing the focus group so people can informally have a discussion about what's going well, what can we improve and how do we all work together so that programming for seniors can go out, not just to seniors in Goderich, but seniors around Goderich,” said Cole.

Research indicates the number of people over the age of 55 is going to increase significantly in Goderich and in Ontario over the next few years so now is the time to ask people what has to be done to accommodate that increase in the senior population and provide the activities that seniors are looking for. Cole says a lot of people that retired at the age of 55 are looking for things to do and some of them have expressed an interest in mentoring young people and passing on some of things they've learned over the years.

Cole says they're having two open houses on Wednesday, February 21st at the MacKay Centre. The first is from 2:00pm to 4:00pm, and the second is from 6:00pm until 8:00pm.

More information can be found on the MacKay Centre webpage or go to their Facebook page or call (519) 524-6660.
