Huron County Museum is Now Accepting Donations for the Museum's Industry Gallery Redevelopment

by Bob Montgomery

The Huron County Museum is looking for support from the community in redeveloping its Industry Gallery to better reflect the diverse history of industry in Huron County.

Senior Curator Elizabeth French-Gibson says for centuries, the people of Huron County have manufactured objects from stone tools to pottery, from bicycles to steam engines, baseball bats, fountain pens, craft beer and more. French-Gibson says to better represent the diversity of this history the Museum has been working on a large-scale redevelopment of its Industry Gallery. She says the redevelopment will focus on lake and labour, natural resources, salt, and industrial diversity.

French-Gibson says they're looking for ideas that people have of different industries from the communities throughout the county. She says they already have a large collection of items at the museum but they also know that there are industries that have been under-represented in their collection. They would like to hear from people who would be interested in donating things they might have that can tell a story. She says they would also be interested in talking with people who might be interested in helping with the project.

French-Gibson says in the last year they've been accepting donations from some of the county's local organization and she says sponsors have been very generous. They're opening it up to individuals who would be interesting in donating to the redevelopment. More information about the project and how people can get involved can be found on the museum's website.
