Huron County Historian, David Yates, Releases New Book This Week
by Bob Montgomery
Huron County Historian, and former high school history teacher, Dave Yates, is releasing his newest book this week.
The book is called Never Shall Their Glory Fade, and Yates explains the title is derived from one of the inscriptions on the Goderich cenotaph and refers to the names that are on that cenotaph. Yates says the idea was that when cenotaphs throughout Huron County were unveiled, they would be eternal monuments to keep before the public's eye the sacrifice of previous generations.
Yates says they really are at the core of every town in Huron County where there is one, and there are thirteen, and he can't recall any of them being vandalized or desecrated. He says even young children seem to have an understanding and reference for the cenotaphs and what they stand for.
Yates says photographer Conrad Kuiper did an amazing job of bringing out the work that went into the designing of each of the cenotaphs. He also wants to thank Bruce Power for providing the funding for the book and Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet for helping with that. All of the proceeds generated by the book, after expenses, will go to some sort of veterans cause.
Yates says the books should be in stores by the end of this week.
