Hensall Kinsmen Playground Reopens

by Bob Montgomery

MPP Lisa Thompson and Ontario Trillium Foundation volunteer Emma Bartz, were on hand along with municipal officials for the ribbon-cutting at the Hensall Kinsmen Park.

The Municipality of Bluewater received a Capital Grant of 100-thousand dollars from the Trillium Foundation to support the playground. Recreation Coordinator Denver Boertien says the former playground had been there for a few years and was replaced with a newer and more accessible playground. Boertien says work on the new playground started last year and was completed about a week ago.

Boertien says replacing the outdated equipment with a new, accessible structure ensures that the playground can be enjoyed by children of all abilities, creating a safe, inclusive environment that supports play and social development. She says it has new features that will eventually include a parent – tot swing that will be accessible so parents can sit while they push their kids in the swing.

Boertien says the Kinsmen have donated the funding for a walk way from the community centre to the park to make it even more accessible and the equipment has been installed by municipal staff.
