Goderich Council Looking for More Discussion Regarding Project at Maitland Valley Golf Course

by Bob Montgomery

Goderich Mayor Trevor Bazinet says Goderich council has deferred a decision on a proposal to locate 68 mobile homes on the Maitland Valley Golf Course.

Bazinet says council would like to meet with the applicant again and see if some compromises could be made with the concerns that have been expressed by those who are not in favour of the development. Bazinet says it’s a difficult decision and people have spoken both in favour of the development and opposed. Council wants to make sure that they have all of the information in front of them and explore any chance of a compromise before they make their final decision.

Bazinet says there have been some concerns about the environment around the golf course but he says the bigger concerns seem to be about the optics and what the golf course is going to look like. He says right now six holes are on the top level of the golf course and three are on the lower level. The proposal is to move the sixth hole down to the lower level and the five remaining holes on the top level will be condensed to make room for 68 mobile homes.

Bazinet points out the applicants do have all of the necessary approvals in place but council wants to see if they can reach a compromise on the concerns of the people opposed to the project.
