Goderich And Exeter Poised To Set New Records With This Year's Coldest Night Of The Year Walk

by Bob Montgomery

Coldest Night of the Year Walks are taking place in both Goderich and Exeter this Saturday.

Perth Huron United Way Manager of Community Development, Michelle Millar says walkers in Goderich will meet at the pavilion on the Square around 4:30 on Saturday. She says they'll have quite a few walkers so the pavilion seemed the perfect place to meet. They'll have a brief workout at 4:45 followed by opening remarks and then start their walk. The Goderich team had set a target of 135-thousand dollars but as of yesterday they had raised about 137-thousand dollars.

The Exeter team will meet at the Exeter Christian Reform Church on Huron Road, with opening remarks around ten to five and then they start walking around five, up Huron Road to the main street to the lights at the Scotia Bank and then down the other side for snacks at the church. Exeter's goal was fifty-thousand and they're currently at 56-thousand dollars, thanks in part to a ten-thousand dollar donation from Team McCann Redi-Mix.

Millar says it's important to note that both the Exeter and Goderich teams are in the top ten across Canada out of 5,969 teams. Exeter's - Team McCann is 7th and the O My Goderich team is second. You can see the scoreboard here: https://cnoy.org/scoreboard .

A smaller community walk is taking place in Clinton on Friday Feb 21st. Walkers will arrive at the Clinton Community Arena at 11:30 and walk to Beech Street and follow Beech Street to Highway 4 and then come straight down Highway 4 to the lights and then turn back to the town hall where they'll enjoy some treats on the upper floor and hear from United Way Executive Director Ryan Erb.

The Goderich Team was proudly sponsored by Jayden’s Mechanical for Goderich and the Exeter Team was proudly sponsored by Hayter's Farm.
