Full Moon Expected To Light Up The Night For This Friday Night's Owl Prowl At The Morrison Dam In Exeter

by Bob Montgomery

The Owl Prowl has become one of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority's most popular events over the years, and this year it's completely sold out.

Conservation Education Coordinator Cassie Greidanus says they have two groups of seventy-five registered for this Friday night, and they have a wait list for both groups. “Each of the groups are going to have an experience with Wild Ontario, a group out of Guelph that has rehabilitated owls, and they bring in live owl species that are commonly found in this area.” Greidanus says they'll have what they call a meet and greet and get to see the owls close up and share some information about them.

Following that, they'll go out on the trail and learn a bit more about local owls and then try to call some owls in where they can see them. She says last year they tried calling for owls for the early group when it was still too light and the owls weren't having any part of it. But they were successful in calling four or five Screech Owls in for the later group so they've moved the date this year so the the time change would help them attract more owls for the early group.

The Owl Prowl will run rain, snow or shine but not if there is thunder or lightning. This year the forecast at this point is calling for relatively mild weather for November, and they're also predicting a full moon, which is just icing on the cake. The Morrison Dam Conservation area is located at 71108 Morrison Line, RR 3 Exeter, just south of the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority office.
