Fanshawe College Open House Set to Highlight Local Post-Secondary Programming

by Bob Montgomery

Fanshawe College is hosting their Spring Open House on Saturday, March 23rd at the Reach Centre in Clinton.

Fanshawe Student Engagement Representative Kim Reid says the Open House will run from 10:00am until 2:00pm. Reid says the Open House is the perfect time to discover Fanshawe’s local full-time, part-time and MyPath options, taught by talented industry-leading faculty, and see what options are available to them locally. She adds, in Clinton they offer Personal Support Worker and Early Childhood Education programs and both of them are full-time post-secondary programs and they also offer a part-time PSW program.

“Our full-time program students can attend in class in Clinton if they wish to do so, but we also broadcast our full-time courses through a virtual classroom. So, students can attend from other locations.” Reid says they might have to come to campus for things like doing lab work or other practical hands-on things. They have two Early Childhood Education classrooms and one Personal Support Worker classroom at the Reach Centre. They also have a mock lab set up for the PSW program, so it's set up like a hospital room with two hospital beds, lifts and washroom facilities. They aim to have a minimum of ten students in each classroom, but they don't like to go over twenty-five.

Reid says there are a number of benefits to studying locally. Programs are designed to prepare students for high-demand careers in their community, small classes with easier access to faculty experts and student supports, strong partnerships with regional employers, familiar faces and fun campus activities to add to the student experience and lower fees and free parking. Flexible college options make it easier than ever to get an education close to home that will transition to a career anywhere.

Fanshawe College has had classes at the Reach Centre since 2007, and while the virtual broadcasts allow students to do the full-time courses without coming to Clinton most of the time, several of the students find accommodation in Clinton, and there are usually rooms for rent notices posted on the board at the Reach Centre.

People can register to attend the open house or just drop in. It runs from 10:00am until 2:00pm on Saturday March 23rd at the Reach Centre, located at 169 Beech Street in Clinton. Students who register for the Fanshawe Open House at https://openhouse.fanshawec.ca can also get a chance to win one of five $1,000 tuition or school supplies prizes!
