Exeter Curling Club Hosting Learn to Curl Day for Newcomers on Saturday

by Bob Montgomery

The Exeter Curling Club is inviting newcomers to the area to come out and learn to curl this Saturday.

Local Immigration Partnership Manager Mark Nonkes explains it doesn't matter how long people have been in Canada, if they're interested in learning how to curl, volunteers from the Exeter Curling Club will be available this Saturday to show newcomers how the game is played.

Nonkes says it's an opportunity for newcomers to learn to play a game that is a very popular Canadian game that has a long history in Canada and to try something new. “The goal is really to help people have a great day out but also make new social connections with other immigrants and people who are supporters of immigrants, whether it's organizational representatives or just volunteers.”

The Learn to Curl event will take place this Saturday afternoon from 1:00pm - 4:00pm at the Exeter Curling Club at 205 Riverside Drive in Exeter. Nonkes says representatives from the library and the YMCA Settlement Services will also be on hand to tell people about their supports that are available in the community. There are also kids activities planned throughout the day.
