County Of Huron Thanks Huron County Paramedics During Paramedic Service Week

by Bob Montgomery

Paramedic Services Week runs from May 19th to May 25th and is an opportunity for Huron County residents to recognize the tireless work and dedication of Huron County's 108 paramedics and their supervisory and administrative staff who form an integral part of the county’s emergency preparedness and response team.

“Huron’s paramedics are always there when we most need them, going above and beyond to keep us safe” said Huron County Warden Glen McNeil. “I am immensely grateful for our paramedic team. This week is a chance for us to thank them and to recognize their unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe and healthy.”

Huron County's Chief of Emergency Services says this year's theme is Helping Us Help You. It's a chance to thank front line paramedics for what they do every day, but it's also an opportunity to educate the public on things they can do to make the scene as safe as possible for the paramedics when they're dealing with an emergency. “Things like keeping your house number visible at all times, leaving outside lights on if they've been called out at night, keeping snow or other obstacles out of the path to the door, putting pets in a secure room so they don't interfere with the paramedics.” It's a week when we can thank our paramedics but also learn about some of the little things we can do to make their jobs easier. Horseman also concedes that most people don't react to an emergency the way a paramedic, who deals with emergencies every day, does so they do ask that people let the paramedics do their job.

The County of Huron’s Emergency Services team, including paramedics, provides emergency medical care and coordinates emergency response efforts with other local emergency service providers, such as 911 dispatch, fire services, and local law enforcement, to ensure help is available when it’s needed most. They provide critical service and care that prevent human fatalities and stabilize life-threatening injuries for the community. Huron County’s paramedics respond to approximately 10,000 calls annually.
