Community Volunteer Income Tax Program Assisting Bruce County Residents

By Bob Montgomery

Bruce County’s Human Services Department reminds the public that Community Volunteer Income Tax Program clinics and assistance are available by calling 211.

It's very important for individuals and families to complete their 2023 income taxes to qualify for many federal, provincial, and municipal programs and services such as the Canada-Ontario Housing Benefit, Child Care Fee Subsidy, and a variety of other programs delivered by the Human Services Department.

Filing income taxes also provides access to many needed benefits and credits, such as the Canada Child Benefit. Tax benefits provide money to people based on their life circumstances and for some people, benefits can help to increase their income, lower expenses, and assist with food security and housing stability.

Through the Community Volunteer Income Tax Program community organizations host free tax clinics where volunteers complete tax returns for people with a modest income and a simple tax situation.
