United Way’s Coldest Night Of The Year Returns To Exeter On February 22
by Bob Montgomery
United Way Perth-Huron and lead sponsor Hayter’s Farm invite people in Southern Huron to register for the sixth annual Coldest Night of the Year (CNOY).
“We’re excited to have the Coldest Night of the Year back again this year,” said Michelle Millar, United Way Perth Huron’s Community Development Manager for Southern Huron. “United Way Perth Huron continues to work on the issue of homelessness locally and funds from Coldest Night help us ensure available programs and services can continue to have a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable people. Let’s walk together and achieve our $50,000 goal.”
This year’s Exeter CNOY happens on Saturday, February 22. Check-in begins at 4 p.m. at the Exeter Christian Reformed Church with opening ceremonies scheduled for 4:45 p.m. A light meal will be served at 6 p.m. Walkers can choose a two or five kilometre route finishing back at the church. People can also walk on their own any time during the month of February. Participants raising over $150, $75 for youth under 18, receive CNOY toques. To register a team, or as an individual, visit cnoy.org. For event updates, join the “Exeter Coldest Night of the Year” group on Facebook, here.
By walking, participants help support United Way Perth Huron’s Southern Huron Connection Centre in Exeter and the Huron Homelessness Initiative. The Southern Huron Connection Centre offers basic needs such as light meals, a shower, washroom and laundry facilities and support through partnerships with numerous agencies. The Huron Homelessness Initiative includes Huron Turning Point transition home for men, shelter for women, children and youth, Huron Heart to Home and the Huron Supportive Housing Advocate.
United Way would like to thank their sponsors: AXIOM Mutual Insurance, Canadian Tire Exeter, Hayter’s Farm, Ideal Supply, McDonald’s Exeter and McDonald’s Grand Bend. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact Michelle at mmillar@perthhuron.unitedway.ca for details.
