Central Huron Community Improvement Coordinator And the Clinton Legion Are Hosting A Learn to Crochet Night In March

by Bob Montgomery

Central Huron's Community Improvement Coordinator and the Clinton Legion have teamed up to host a Learn to Crochet Night on March 4th.

Community Improvement Coordinator Angela Smith says they're inviting as many members of the community as possible to come out and help create poppy blankets for the Clinton and Bayfield cenotaphs. Smith says they'll be launching the poppy project on March 4th at the Clinton Town Hall auditorium from 6:00 until 8:00 in the evening.

Smith says for those who don't know how to crochet, and really who doesn't, they're offering free lessons as well as the yarn and tools. They hope to fill the auditorium with crocheters, both experienced and first timers. It's an all ages invitation, and they’re hoping to involve kids as well so they become part of their community and learn about Remembrance Day along the way. It will be a free fun night out with refreshments provided. As Bayfield doesn’t have a Legion to help them, they have been invited to join the event in Clinton and create a blanket for their cenotaph too.

Some people are creating their own poppies at home and just dropping them off and that's great too, people are welcome to use whatever pattern they like, knitted or crocheted, using whatever size hook they're comfortable with. The hooks being provided will be 4.50, but Smith says she knows some people have done them with larger hooks… the goal is to have a fun community night, so whatever people want to use is great!
