Bluewater Council Asking Province to Ease Some Restrictions for Day Care Workers
By Bob Montgomery
Bluewater council is asking the Province to relax some of its requirements for people hoping to address the shortage of staff in day care centres.
Bluewater Mayor Paul Klopp says they recognize the need for some rules, but he says at a time when there is a severe shortage of child care providers it doesn't make sense for someone in their fifties who has been a parent to go through the same process as an eighteen-year-old who has never dealt with children. So council came up with a few suggestions to send to the Province on how they could alleviate some of the pressure on day care centres.
Klopp says some day care centres are closed right now because they can't get workers and he suggests the Province should recognize the experience some parents have with children who are applying to work in a day care centre.
