A Huron Perth Flag Football Team Is Hoping To Build On Last Year's Success In 2025
by Bob Montgomery
The Huron Perth Flag Football League was launched in September of last year with about 95 players from six to sixteen years old by Melanie & Dave Levinson.
Melanie Levinson says they're hoping to build on that this year. Their season ran for eight weeks with a year-end tournament on November 2nd. Their games were played on Saturday mornings at the Exeter Community Soccer Field, behind the arena. She says they didn't start accepting registrations until the end of June so they were surprised with how many players they got and they're hoping to exceed that this coming year. This year they're going to be extending the age to 17 because they're going to add an adult league and that would be 18 years old and up.
Melanie says right now they're able to play three separate full games on the fields they have in Exeter and that's a good location because it's central for a lot of the players. If they find they need more space, they would have to consider adding another location. They're currently drawing players from Goderich, Clinton, Bayfield, Seaforth, Stratford, Listowel, Wingham, Exeter, Lucknow, Blyth, Zurich, Hensall, Lucan, Grand Bend & Mitchell. She says it's not a highly competitive league. There won't be any huge trophies, but there will be a few small ones and plaques. Their goal is that the kids have fun learning the game and enjoy the game and playing on a team. She adds, they'll pick up skills that will help them both on and off the field.
This winter they'll be conducting three pre-season or training camps at the Behind the Lines indoor facility in Listowel on January 17th, February 21st and March 14th and those are open to anyone who wants to learn the game or players who want to get into shape for the coming season.
