Work Underway To Replace The Track And Infield Playing Surface At St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School

by Bob Montgomery

Work has begun on the new track and the enhancement of the infield playing surface at St. Anne’s Catholic Secondary School in Clinton.

Director of Education, Chris Roehrig, says the original track has served the school community well over the past 25 plus years. “This facility is used by schools throughout the Huron-Perth district as well as the community. This project represents a significant investment by the board for St. Anne’s, Huron-Perth Athletics and the County of Huron and we are proud to be a strong community partner.”

The project will replace the existing track with new asphalt including a rubberized surface coating. Drainage issues for the soccer/rugby/field hockey pitch will be addressed at the same time. The project also involves a new field house to properly store the equipment.

Physical education classes, elementary regional track meets, Huron-Perth Athletics, invitational track meets as well as local organizations have enjoyed the benefits of the track. Members of the community can be seen daily walking the track to improve their health and fitness. St. Anne's Vice-Principal says by investing in the track rebuild and inner field upgrade, future generations will have access to high level training facilities which will enable rural athletes to compete and find success at the provincial and/or national level.

The project is expected to be completed by the fall of this year.
