Wingham Falcons Cricket Club Host Most Successful Tournament Of The Year

by Bob Montgomery

The Wingham Falcons Cricket Club recently hosted one of their most successful tournaments so far.

Co-Captain Gurpreet Singh says they had seven teams from as far away as Kitchener, Listowel and the Hanover-Walkerton area and about 110 players. Singh says he's very grateful for the work a crew from North Huron did in converting a soccer field into a cricket pitch because in cricket the batters have to be able to hit the ball in all directions.

Singh says they're already planning a tournament for next year and he's hoping they can get even more teams out and show them how cricket is growing in a small town like Wingham. He says a lot of them didn't even know where Wingham was until they came to the tournament but most of them called him after it was over and thanked him for a great time and said they would be back.

Singh says they're hoping next year's event will be even bigger and he'd like to see if they can get some people from Wingham to take up the game and play in next year's tournament.
