The Chamber Of Commerce For Goderich And North and Central Huron Is Expanding

by Bob Montgomery

The Chamber of Commerce for Goderich and North and Central Huron is pleased to announce the formal extension of its geographic boundaries to encompass additional areas of Huron County.

Chamber Executive Director Colin Carmichael says the extension reinforces their commitment to supporting local businesses and fostering economic growth throughout the county. “This decision, formally adopted by the Board of Directors on October 1st, officially welcomes several municipalities to the Chamber’s service area.”

The Huron Chamber of Commerce was established in 1990 as the Goderich and District Chamber of Commerce, and has long played a pivotal role in promoting business success in Goderich and surrounding areas. In 2010, the Chamber rebranded to its current name and expanded its service area to include the municipalities of Goderich, Central Huron, and North Huron. Over the years, the Chamber has naturally grown its membership and provided services to businesses beyond its official boundary. This newly formalized boundary extension will include the municipalities that have long been unofficially part of the Chamber along with the addition of the municipality of Huron East, following the recent announcement that the Huron East Chamber of Commerce will cease operations by the end of 2024.

“We already have members in many of these municipalities, and this decision is a formalization of the work we’ve been doing in these areas for some time,” said Carmichael. “By officially extending our boundaries, we’re ensuring that businesses in these regions have access to the full range of resources, advocacy and networking opportunities that our Chamber provides.”

The newly defined service area includes the municipalities of Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh, Morris-Turnberry, Howick, Huron East, and parts of the Township of Bluewater not currently represented by the Bayfield and Zurich chambers, in addition to the three municipalities that previously defined the area served by the Huron Chamber of Commerce.

The Chamber will continue to respect the service areas of the South Huron Chamber of Commerce, Bayfield and Area Chamber of Commerce, and Zurich and District Chamber of Commerce, with whom the Huron Chamber of Commerce enjoys strong and collaborative relationships.
