The Avro Lancaster Bomber Will Be Flying Into Goderich This Friday
by Bob Montgomery
The Avro Lancaster was an iconic bomber from World War II. Only 17 Lancasters have stood the test of time and only two of them remain airworthy today, showcasing the endurance and legacy of this historic bomber.
Goderich Legion President Randy Carroll says the Lancaster will arrive at the Goderich Airport around 10:00 Friday morning and as it comes into view it will be very easily recognizable.
Organizers are expecting about five thousand people over the Friday and Saturday. Tours for the public will be available from 11:30 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon on Friday. Carroll says they'll do a flight pre-check at about 9:00 on Saturday morning and then take five lucky passengers up for a fly-by around Goderich at 10:00 in the morning. They'll land shortly after 10:30 and put it back where people can get a close look at it until it leaves around 2:30 in the afternoon.
Carroll says the last time the Lancaster was in Goderich was August 14th of 2005.
More information about the visit of the Lancaster can be found on the Goderich Legion website.
