Summer Company Program Now Accepting Applicants
by Bob Montgomery
Applications are now being accepted for Huron County's annual Summer Company program.
The Summer Company helps students between the ages of 15 and 29 who want to start their own business. Successful applicants will receive up to $3,000 in start-up funds as well as business training throughout the summer. As many as ten students will get the chance to start their own companies this summer. The Summer Company program is made possible through an ongoing partnership with the Province of Ontario and a partnership with the McCall MacBain Foundation.
“I really enjoyed the Summer Company Program. It gave me the opportunity to not only start up a business in an area I love but taught me so much about how to successfully run a business,” said Kipp Johnston, owner of KJ Custom Drone Imaging. “I would highly recommend this program to anyone who has an idea or hobby that they would like to make into a business. It was a great experience, and the advisors are wonderful and so helpful.”
Applications for the Summer Company program are open until May 16th. To apply, you must determine if you are eligible. To do that, you can do that by going to this page on the Huron County website. You will also find the information you need to submit your online application.
Once that's received, the lead Business Advisor will contact you to provide additional information and supply you with a business plan and cash flow projection template to complete. You will also be asked to provide an updated resume to complete your application.
"We encourage interested individuals to get in touch with us at the Huron Business Centre with any questions they have as they prepare their business plan and cash flow projections." says Business Advisor, Tricia Denomme. “We know that for many, entrepreneurship is a brand-new journey. As the lead Business Advisor for this program, I’m here to guide you through every step, so you won’t have to do it alone.”
All submitted applications will be reviewed and applicants may be contacted for an interview before being approved for the program. Once participants are approved, they will be connected to an advisor/mentor, provided with basic business training and receive other business support and promotional opportunities. Participants will be provided with $1,500 to help with start-up costs and the remaining $1,500 at the end of the summer, upon the completion of the program.
