Seaforth Main Street Building Struck By Tractor Has Been Restored
by Bob Montgomery
A tractor ran into the building at the intersection of Main Street and John Street in October of 2023.
Gloria Wilbee is a Huron East councillor and the Chair of the Huron East Heritage Committee. The committee met with Architect Allan Avis in November to assess the extent of the damage, decide if the building could be restored, and also evaluate whether the brick could be salvaged. They were assured the building could be restored, and that was very good news, because the downtown is a heritage district and they didn't want to lose the building.
Wilbee says the people who were occupying the building at the time of the incident have moved to another building. The work has just recently been completed and the building is restored and can now be rented out to new tenants. There are also apartments in the second floor of the building.
The Heritage Committee is delighted that it was possible to restore the building to its original condition.
