REACH Huron To Enhance Culinary Programs And Offerings Thanks To Provincial Grant
by Bob Montgomery
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson visited the REACH Centre last Friday to present Executive Assistant Cindy Pryce with a cheque for just under $29,000.
The grant was actually received last fall through the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the funds were used to upgrade equipment in the community kitchen. The visit was an opportunity for Thompson to see the improvements made in the kitchen. Thompson pointed out it's a very busy kitchen and the upgrades to the community kitchen can support culinary programs and partners that utilize the REACH Centre.
With the grant, REACH Huron was able to purchase a new commercial dishwasher, fridge and freezer, along with a countertop induction range, microwave, 14-cup food processor and a mobile pan rack. The grant also enabled REACH Huron to buy and install a water bottle filling station that’s going to provide fresh water to all staff and students at its facilities. All these items have been very beneficial in supporting the organization’s culinary programs and educational partners. “We are very thankful to the Ontario Trillium Foundation for providing support to this project,” said REACH Huron General Manager Matt Lee, “We are excited to continue to support our current and future partners in our community kitchen.”
REACH Huron has both event facilities and educational facilities. On the education side, they hold partnerships with University of Guelph Ridgetown Campus, Fanshawe College, Contact North and both the Avon Maitland and Huron-Perth Catholic District School Boards. Their newest partner is with Cornerstone Schoolhouse, which is a Montessori School running year-round within their facilities.
