President Of The Bayfield Area Food Bank Says They're Going To Need Funding To Find A New Home

by Bob Montgomery

With the sale of the building on 6 Municipal Road in Bayfield completed, the Bayfield Area Food Bank is going to have to find a new home.

The building was previously occupied by the Bayfield Lions Club and the Bayfield Area Food Bank as well as a few other community groups. The President of the Food Bank was one of about ten people in the council chambers last night to hear the announcement that the sale of the building to two physicians from Seaforth had been finalized.

Claire Trepanier, says the immediate problem for them is finding temporary housing for the food bank, and then permanent housing. And the biggest challenge for them is finding funding for a permanent home. She says the food bank is a non-profit organization and they currently have a room that's about 22 x 22 that has shelving and industrial refrigeration units that will have to be moved, so they'll be asking council at their next meeting for some financial help in getting that done.

Trepanier says they do have money in reserves but that's money that has been donated by the community to buy food, and that money is already budgeted for the needs of the coming year, so they can't, in good conscience, use that money to fund a building so they're going to have to ask for help from the municipality.
