Potential Bluewater Youth Centre Lessee Addresses Central Huron Council

by Bob Montgomery

Representatives of Wessuc Inc. addressed Central Huron council this week regarding their plans to lease part of the property at the former Bluewater Youth Centre.

Central Huron Mayor Jim Ginn says they've presented to council in the past and their proposal was to use the lagoon to store sewage that comes in over the winter, process it and then apply it to agricultural fields in the spring. But Ginn says what they proposed at this week's council meeting was a much more expansive use of the property.

Ginn says one of the challenges municipalities have in Huron County is finding a place to put septage when people pump out their septic tanks. So Wessuc Inc expressed interested in leasing most of the property on the former Bluewater Centre and creating a second lagoon for septage. Ginn says that would have to be treated and then could be land-applied as a fertilizer in the spring.

Ginn says they're going to have to have a lot more discussion before they move ahead with the proposal. He says there's been a lot interest in the property since Central Huron acquired the property and they'll look at all of the proposals before they make a decision.
