Owners of Goderich Super Storage Make Significant Donation to United Way

by Bob Montgomery

The owners of Goderich Super Storage, Doug Kuyvenhoven and Dave Sjaarda donated twenty-thousand dollars to the United Way Campaign in Goderich this week.

United Way Manager of Community Development Michelle Millar says the United Way goal was quite lofty this year, at 2.6 million. Millar said although she doesn't know what the final figure was, she knows it was the most they've ever raised and they couldn't have done it without people like Doug and Dave, who have stepped up to the plate and recognized that it takes a community to make the change they need to see. Millar adds, that need is increasing and in particular right now the number of homeless people continues to grow with no solution in sight. The donation from Doug and Dave will go right back into the local community.

Doug Kuyvenhoven says, as Christians, they believe their business is about more than just improving their own standard of living. “Businesses can generate profits but we want to reinvest those profits into the communities where we do business. And so when we started this business that's really what it was about and so we take a percentage of our profits and we reinvest it. And really our heart is for the homeless, there are people in this community that are without homes, so we really saw this as an opportunity to help out through the United Way and we can leverage our business to do that.”
