Owner Of The White Squirrel Golf Course Outlines Plans For Expansion To Huron County Chamber Of Commerce Members

by Bob Montgomery

The former owner and founder of M&M Meats was the guest speaker at the Huron Chamber of Commerce After Five meeting at the Little Inn in Bayfield last week.

Mac Voisin sold M&M Meats in 2014 and settled into the Grand Bend area. The Bayview Golf Club was located just a little north of Grand Bend on highway 21. As it turned out, Mac Voisin liked to golf and he liked the Bayview Course so much he decided to buy it. Voisin says the original concept was to take a cottage country, low-level course and bring it up to a mid-level course, and then build around it to create an environment where people would want to live near this better quality golf course.

He says they're going to build it out over the next number of years starting with a new restaurant at the south end of the patio and pro shop and then above that they'll have offices and an event centre for weddings. That will be what they now call the centrepiece, and that'll go up first. But, right in behind that they're also going to have a lot of condominium units, and apartments, including some affordable housing, as well as townhouses.

Voisin says so far it's been going very well. They've had an outstanding year with the restaurant and the golf course. The restaurant is open all winter and they're going to work on the plans during this winter and hopefully be in a position to present them to council in the next few months. He says they're getting support from Bluewater council and county councillors and they're hoping county planners will eventually get behind it. They'll do the engineering studies and anything else that's necessary over the next number of months to put them in a position to have their pre-construction meeting and they're optimistic that they'll be able to move forward at that point.

Voisin says they're grateful for all of the people that have come out to the golf course and their goal is to make it a destination point.
