One Care Launching Seniors Active Living Centre In Clinton
by Bob Montgomery
One Care has announced the opening of a new seniors Active Living Centre in Clinton.
Communication and Engagement Specialist Shelley McPhee Haist says the centre will be located at One Care's Betty Cardno Centre on highway 8. McPhee Haist says the Centre will be a real opportunity to promote wellness, connection and life-long learning for seniors in their community and throughout the area. She says isolation and loneliness can be serious issues for seniors and a real determent to their health. She says they'll be building on the programs they already have and notes recently they had 75 people come out for their Diners for Seniors program.
The new Active Living Centre will allow them to offer more exercise and wellness programs, community meals, arts and culture programs and hobbies, lots of health promotion and educational workshops, care-giver support groups, music and entertainment and there's lots of opportunities for them to see what the community needs and how they can respond to those needs.
McPhee Haist says the funding for the project comes from the Ministry For Seniors and Accessibility and they've really identified the need for this type of social programming for seniors. In Central Huron over 26 percent of their population would be considered seniors and that number is expected to grow in the coming years. McPhee Haist says their program also depends a great deal on their partners and they've reached out to a number of community organizations that will be coming in and delivering programs or funds to support the start up. The Municipality of Central Huron has committed to a ten-thousand dollar contribution to help them.
McPhee Haist says seniors of any age are welcome. The Centre will officially open on April 1st and anyone looking for more information about the program or how they can get involved can call One Care at 1-877-502-8277 or go to their website at https://www.onecaresupport.ca/.
